Having worked in banking, accounting and finance for over 10 years, what I find most satisfying about financial planning is seeing clients implement the strategies we recommend and seeing the results, not just on paper.
Catching up with them a year or two on and seeing them in a good position, knowing you played a small part in getting them there, is the reason I pursued financial planning over the other avenues.
A lot of what we do in retirement planning is making sure nothing's left on the table. Part Age Pensions, health care cards, entitlements people didn't think they'd qualify for. The paperwork and the back and forth with Centrelink is enough to make anyone give up. We take that on so our clients don't have to. They're so grateful and happy to get more than they expected without all the stress. It's a really great part of this job.
I'm happiest in or around water. Gardening, cooking, and spending time with my fiancé and our dog Summer fill up the rest of my time. Fun fact: my first home was a houseboat on the Murray River.
